ESRI Seminar "Technical Efficiency and Total Factor Productivity Growth of Hospitals in Ireland"

Venue: ESRI Building, 4 Burlington Road, Dublin 4.

Date: 18/11/2004

Speaker: Brenda Gannon

In this paper, two methodologies - Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA), are used to measure technical efficiency of acute public hospitals in Ireland between 1992 and 2000. Although, previous research has used DEA extensively, the more recent panel model approach to estimating the stochastic frontier has not been employed to the same extent. This is the first time an application of this type has been performed on input and output data from Irish hospitals. Internationally, the results contribute to the expanding literature of comparisons between DEA and SFA applications.

To request a Seminar Paper, please contact brenda Gannon on 01 6671525 or by email to brenda.gannon@esri.ie. Seminars are held on Thursdays in the Lecture Hall, commencing at 4 p.m. No booking required. All welcome.

ESRI Seminars are an opportunity for research staff to present work in progress. They are aimed at other researchers and those with a particular interest in the research topic. As presentations of work in progress, they do not report final conclusions and are not for quotation
