WaterFutures

WaterFutures is an EPA funded multi-disciplinary project developing practical tools for use in managing Ireland's waters and responding to the needs of the European Water Framework Directive.  The project is lead by UCD and comprises researchers from NUIM, Teagasc, Rothamsted Research, TCD, Inland Fisheries, Marine Institute, IT Sligo, and the ESRI.  The ESRI's contribution to the project relates to developing macro-economic and demographic trajectories, and studying preferences for food items with attributes across carbon, water use, and risks to water quality.  This research will feed into work to examine responses from the agriculture sector and land use change and the resultant consequences for nutrient mobilisation and transfer pathways to waterways.
