Abstract
The paper will explore the situation of children of international migrants in contemporary Europe. It will draw partially on research funded by the EU which explored issues of incorporation of international migrants in a comparative framework. The paper will focus on linguistic incorporation as well as trajectories through the educational system. It will suggest that the former is an inevitable feature of most European societies but that outcomes in the latter are a function of the differing national educational systems themselves. The paper will also examine political and cultural attitudes and behaviour amongst both autochtonous young people and their allochthonous counterparts.
