Seminar Topic

What does Brexit mean for the UK, the EU and globalisation? This paper starts by considering what is known (and what is not known) about the likely economic consequences of Brexit for both the UK and the EU. It then analyses the demographics of the Brexit vote and why certain groups voted for Brexit. Finally, it discusses whether Brexit poses a threat to the future of the EU and global economic integration.

Guest Speaker Bio

Thomas Sampson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at LSE as well as an Associate in the Centre for Economic Performance (CEP). Before joining LSE he received his PhD in Economics from Harvard University. He works on international trade, growth and development. His research analyses how different types of firms and workers are affected by globalisation. He is part of the CEP team studying the consequences of Brexit for the British economy (http://cep.lse.ac.uk/BREXIT/).
