Ireland’s trade with the Baltic in the 18th century
The ESRI organises a public seminar series, inviting researchers from both the ESRI and other institutions to present new research on a variety of public policy issues. The seminar series provides access to specialised knowledge and new research methodologies, with the objective of promoting research excellence and facilitating productive dialogue across the policy and research fields.
Guest speaker: Dr Aidan Kane, Head of Economics at NUI Galway.
Seminar topic: This presentation analysed data gathered as part of the Duanaire project and examined trade between Ireland and the Baltic region during the 18th century.
Speaker bio: Dr Aidan Kane is Head of Economics and a member of the Whitaker Institute at NUI Galway. His research interests are principally in Irish economic history, and in particular, the construction of historical datasets. Dr Kane established Duanaire, which gathers data on Irish economic history data, and in particular, Irish fiscal history data.
