Venue: ESRI, Whitaker Square, Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, Dublin 2
The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Ms Frances Fitzgerald TD, will launch "Mothers’ Return to Work and Childcare Choices for Infants in Ireland" by Frances McGinnity, Aisling Murray and Sinéad McNally on 22 July.
Using data from the first wave of the Infant Cohort of Growing Up in Ireland, this report looks at: the extent and nature of non-parental childcare for infants; the characteristics of mothers who take up paid employment before their child is 9 months old and the association between childcare and infant health.
Growing Up in Ireland is a Government study. The Department of Children and Youth Affairs is funding it in association with the Department of Social Protection and the Central Statistics Office. The Department of Children and Youth Affairs is overseeing and managing the study, which is being carried out by a consortium of researchers led by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) and Trinity College Dublin.
