Shared Island – Early Childhood Education and Care in Ireland and Northern Ireland
This webinar will launch a new ESRI report on Early Childhood Education and Care (ECCE), by Sarah Curristan, Frances McGinnity, Helen Russell and Emer Smyth. The research was undertaken as part of a joint research programme between the Department of Taoiseach’s Shared Island Unit and the ESRI.
This report examines ECCE policies in Ireland and Northern Ireland. It compares patterns of participation in ECCE among pre-school children in the two jurisdictions and draws on interviews with stakeholders to outline key developments and challenges. The report also presents findings on social inequalities in cognitive and non-cognitive outcomes among young children in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Report authors will present findings from the report and Dr Glenda Walsh, Stanmillis College, Queen’s University, will respond to the report findings. There will also be an opportunity for event participants to ask questions.
