Webinar: Options for raising tax revenue in Ireland
Registration is closed. Please email events@esri.ie
This is the first of two webinars in our Budget Perspectives 2022 series which discusses policy issues related to the upcoming Budget.
Even before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, an aging population, an overreliance on corporation tax receipts and an inevitable decline in motor tax revenues combined to make the need for future tax rises likely. Such a need has become more pressing with growing demands (and political support) for higher spending on public services, particularly healthcare and the social safety net.
In the webinar, researchers Barra Roantree and Theano Kakoulidou will present a paper that examines a wide range of options that a future tax-raising government might consider, assessing how much revenue they would raise, who would bear the burden, and what economic effects they might have.
The paper Options for raising tax revenue in Ireland will be published on the ESRI website Friday 21 May 2021.
An access link to the webinar will be issued one hour before the event.
