Using data on new greenfield Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) activity, this research examines the effect of Brexit uncertainty on the FDI-related job creation in Northern Ireland. The analysis estimates that following the outcome of the Brexit vote, this has led to a lower number of FDI-related new jobs in Northern Ireland compared to a situation in which the Brexit vote had not taken place. These results are consistent with existing evidence of reduced FDI activity in the UK due to uncertainty related to the future UK’s trade relationship with the EU and is in tune with business surveys consistently identifying continuing Brexit uncertainty as an issue.
