Residential Tenancies Board Quarterly Rent Index Reports

The ESRI has produced quarterly Rent Index reports for the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) since 2013. The project involves the production of rental indicators which are generated to track price developments in the Irish private rental market across national and regional geographical levels and for different property types and sizes. Analysis is based on data from the RTB’s national register of tenancies and captures actual rents being paid for rented properties as opposed to asking prices.

The current quarterly reports comprise two separate sets of indicators: i) the longstanding New Tenancies Rent Index covering the period Q3 2007 to present and ii) an Existing Tenancies Rent Index which captures the rent levels faced by tenants in continuing tenancies (of at least one year in duration) from Q2 2022 onwards. These Existing Tenancies Rent Index indicators are complementary to the new tenancies measures and aim to provide a more comprehensive overview of developments across the private rental sector as a whole.
