Employment and Vacancies Survey: September 2005

Key findings of the report for the month of September 2005:
- Overall, employment in the private sector is expected to rise over the coming months;
- The percentage of private sector firms reporting vacancies increased in September with 11 per cent of firms across all sectors reporting vacancies;
- The percentage of service sector firms with vacancies increased by 10 percentage points to 15 per cent;
- Employers in the industry and retail sectors believe that employment levels in their firms will fall rather than rise over the coming months;
- Construction sector and service sector firms are optimistic about future employment levels in their firms;
- In September 2005 the most frequently cited difficult-to-fill vacancies in each sector were:
- Construction: Quantity surveyors
- Industry: Sales representatives and Managers
- Retail: Managers and Sales Representatives
- Services: Managers.
