Karl Whelan
Karl Whelan was a Research Assistant in the ESRI from 1991 until 1992. He was awarded a Research Fellowship from the ESRI from 1992 until 1995 to study for a PhD in Economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He was a staff economist with the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington DC (1996-2002). He worked in the Central Bank and Financial Services Authority of Ireland where he held positions as Economist, Senior Economist, and Deputy Head in the Economic Analysis and Research Department (2002-2007). He joined the Department of Economics in UCD in 2007 as Professor. His research interests include inflation; consumption; productivity and growth and finance.
