This chapter assesses the global evidence on major factors influencing the future of work. It is part of the output of the International Panel on Social Progress (IPSP), a group of around 300 international scholars in the social sciences and humanities. The Panel brings together international experts in the fields of economics, sociology, political science, history, philosophy, and science and technology. Their common objective was to prepare a report on the direction society should take in order to adequately address the considerable challenges ahead — a rethinking of society for the 21st Century.
