This report explores the link between social origin and vocabulary among young children in Ireland, and the role played by home-learning activities. Results found that children from more advantaged households and children who engaged in frequent home learning activities had higher vocabulary scores. Home learning activities can help compensate somewhat for disadvantage in vocabulary development in lower-income and lower social class households.
