Darragh Walsh

Darragh Walsh was a research assistant at the ESRI from August 2011 to 2014. He has a BA in Psychology and a BA in Mathematical Physics, both from UCD, and a Masters in Mathematics from Cambridge, as a Gates Scholar, and a PhD in Relativity Theory from UCC. He then undertook postdoctoral research in the Geometric Analysis and Gravitation Group at the Albert Einstein Institute (Max Planck Institute for Gravitation) in Potsdam, near Berlin. Darragh?s research interests are in the area of stochastic optimal control, particularly the application of Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations to research questions in energy. He has used Energy Exemplar?s PLEXOS Integrated Energy Model to model the electricity market in Great Britain and the all-island Single Electricity Market and is currently investigating the likely impact of strategic behavior (Nash-Cournot Competition) by Irish generation companies on wholesale electricity prices under the new European Target Model for electricity market integration.
