Petr Spodniak
Petr Spodniak was a postdoctoral research fellow in the Economic Analysis division of the ESRI from September 2016 until May 2019. After earning his PhD from Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland, Petr joined the ESRI’s Energy, Environment and Infrastructure team where he worked on a project (ESIPP) dedicated to energy system integration. He specifically studied the risks and finance of energy system integration, for instance the profitability of flexible energy generation and storage technologies. As energy economist, Petr mostly focuses on electricity market design and regulation and applies econometric techniques. He has consulted the Nordic Energy Regulators on issues related to forward markets and risk management. Petr also taught a full master’s course on electricity markets at the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business. At the end of his stay at the ESRI, Petr visited VATT Institute for Economic Research, Finland, where he collaborated on a research dedicated to the relevance of wholesale electricity markets.
