Alan Barrett chairs National Economic Dialogue 2019
The National Economic Dialogue takes place in Dublin Castle on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 June. The annual event is hosted by the Department of Finance and the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform. The objective of the dialogue is to facilitate open discussions on the competing economic and social priorities facing the Government. The theme for this year is "Building on progress at a time of change".
Representatives from the Oireachtas, business, unions, research institutes, the academic community, voluntary and environmental groups and the diaspora have been invited.
The opening address will be given by An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, TD. Paschal Donohoe, TD, Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform, will discuss the macroeconomic outlook for Ireland.
Professor Alan Barrett, Director of the ESRI, will chair the whole event for the fifth year in a row, beginning the opening session at 9.45am on Wednesday.
Professor Dorothy Watson, Research Professor at the ESRI, will act as rapporteur on a breakout session titled "Supporting improvements in income and living conditions" chaired by Regina Doherty, TD, Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection.
Dr Conor O'Toole, Senior Research Officer at the ESRI, will act as rapporteur on a breakout session titled "Progress on affordable and balanced housing supply" chaired by Eoghan Murphy, TD, Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government.
The breakout sessions will take place at 2:15pm on Wednesday. The rapporteurs will deliver feedback from the sessions at 9am on Thursday.
