ESRI Pays Tribute to Laurence Crowley
It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Laurence Crowley on 24th December 2020. Laurence served on the ESRI Council from 2007 to 2015, and as Chair from 2011 to 2015.
Laurence had a distinguished career in business and public service, he was a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and his particular interest in North-South relations was recognised when he was awarded an honorary CBE by Queen Elizabeth II.
During his time as Chair of the ESRI, the Institute faced some difficult issues and challenges. But through strong leadership, Laurence helped guide the Institute through this period and his advice was invaluable.
Laurence oversaw many changes at the Institute, including the appointment of its current Director, several strategies and peer reviews, and significant changes in the personnel, structure and funding of the Institute. His immense experience and calmness in challenging times proved invaluable to the Institute.
The Council and staff extend our deepest sympathies to Laurence’s family and friends.
