October 2021 Newsletter
Message from the Director:
The past month saw the publication of the autumn Quarterly Economic Commentary and our post-Budget analysis. Further reports on the COVID-related Social Activity Measure (SAM) were also produced by the Behavioural Research Unit. The reports have proven to be extremely important as the number of COVID cases increases again.
Just a few days ago we published work on measuring poverty and deprivation, building on many years of ESRI work in this area. Our Research Bulletin series included papers on green hydrogen, hospital bed supply and the gender stereotyping of young people’s mathematics performance. Another bulletin considered whether exposure to road traffic noises impacted cognitive functioning in older adults.
Looking ahead, on Monday, November 8th Gabriel Makhlouf, Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland, will present at an ESRI-hosted webinar on macroprudential policy, followed by some Q&A which I will moderate. You are invited to register for this online event at the link below. And you can catch up on past events on our YouTube channel.
Regards,
Professor Alan Barrett
