Michael Savage
Michael Savage was a Research Officer working with the SWITCH team in the ESRI. He joined the ESRI as a Research Assistant in September 2011. Alongside his work in the ESRI, Michael obtained a PhD (Economics) from UCD in 2016. His PhD thesis examined issues in taxation, optimal tax reform and the distribution of income. Michael has also completed an MA in Economics and a Higher Diploma in Economics, both in UCD. He worked in Ulster Bank before returning to university to undertake the MA in Economics. He previously graduated with a BA in Economics, Politics and Law and an MA in Development from DCU. His research interests include income tax, welfare and pension policy as well as commodity taxation and income distribution analysis. He has also published on the impact of tobacco control policies in Ireland
