Niall Farrell

Associate Research Professor

Niall Farrell is a co- coordinator for the ‘Energy and Environment’ research area and the ESRI Energy Policy Research Centre. The EPRC is a multi-annual research programme focusing on economic and policy issues across the energy spectrum.

Niall’s research covers energy, climate and environmental economics. He has particular interest in ex-post analyses of wholesale markets; the distributional impacts of energy and climate policy and the analysis of household decision-making. He also has research interests in spatial microsimulation. 

Niall is a member of the Royal Irish Academy’s ‘Young Academy Ireland’ and previously held positions at Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Oxford. He carried out his PhD research at the University of Galway, during which time he was a visiting student researcher at the University of California, Berkeley. 

Niall has published in Economics Letters, The Energy Journal, Energy Economics, the Journal of Economic Inequality and Nature Energy.
